Clothes and Poses by moni158 Clothes and Poses by moni158
I'm not so great at designing clothes...>.< but yeah i need to practice. ( I fail at shoes )

Some pose tips?

It can be difficult to make a pose dynamic or interesting. Best to experiment with angles and trying to make the character look natural.

For a pose there are a few important things to remember.

Center of gravity, if you want you character to look balanced its important to create a center of gravity and construct your pose according to this. ( i might make a tip sheet on this )

What are they doing? Have a good idea of what you want your character to do before you draw it. Just jumping in and drawing off the top of your head can have interesting results but often results in a stiff lifeless pose.

Construction. Construct the entire pose first, then add the details in after. This will generally give the pose more life and movement or create a more natural appearance.

Clothes are easier to apply when you draw the full human form first then add the clothes over top.

feel free to use the poses or the clothes, but please don't trace, since i want to encourage people to try drawing their own poses or interpretations >.<

Ugh... I hate drawing clothes, they're so complicated for me. All the lines and stuff. I keep trying but it never looks right. That's it, from now on I'm not drawing any more clothes!! Wait...wait...no, no that doesn't sound any easier...

How in the world did you get better at bodies and poses? I know practice itself isn't enough, because if you practice and don't have someone critique you, it's hard to get better. And did you use shapes for your proportions? That's something you should do. A proportions guide :D

I find it hard to give tips to him because things come to me more naturally, but this really has helped a lot for him. Thanks! :D

Yes for the tip sheet! I think you could make some great tutorials; I get the proportions all wrong when I try and draw an entire body. Like, the torso is too short, the shoulders too wide, and I haven't the slightest idea how to make my arms, legs, hands and feet look realistic!

Anyways, thank-you for explaining the center of gravity thing!

This is just what I need! Getting a dynamic pose REALLY adds to a picture and is often quite difficult to achieve first up. It's great when newbs like us get to learn from a master like yourself. I am quite thrilled when I see your tips sheets :D
I recommend for practice to draw from life-- especially on public transport, in the street, cafe's, conventions etc. also action poses-- get a movie like the Matrix or some Bruce Lee movie and pause at a good angle to get an idea for camera heights and such.

nonsense, your doing great!
for the shoes, you can fit your characters with shoes from the real world, you know for reference until you got it perfect!
