Amon/Noatak's single tear just 2 seconds before the boat blew up and Tarrlok's statement that "It will be just like the good old days...". He probably knew his brother was lying because there was no way that they could go back to the way they were before, and it makes you wonder if he knew what was coming. He might have also been able to sense Tarrlok's arm moving, being a bloodbender and all.
Am I the only one who thinks Amon is still alive? The way I see it the tear was from the knowledge that Tarlok was about to betray him. Amon is still a kick-ass water bender... surounded by water. Until proven otherwise by season 2 I believe he saved himself with a watershield or something.
Is he indeed saved himself, he could save his brother too. Why you may ask? Well, it'd be killing two birds with one stone (if he still loved his brother in anyway or form at this point in the series). He would have protected him somewhat and if necessary gained a trustworthy ally (if he chose to brain wash his brother). Amon did possess the great skill of manipulation and instilling the spirit of anarchy into idle people. His anti-climatic end, for all we know, could have been a plan all on its own to get his brother at his side so they can reek un-holy vengeance on Korea together (cause you know, power in numbers....?).
So why not?
The two brothers could possibly still be alive, if not, just Amon, because he's just that badass.
Anyone else figure out why Amon really wanted to get rid of benders...? Did I miss something, because I don't remember him actually explaining why. Seeing as he was a bender himself, I thought he was just power hungry and wanted to get rid of anyone who could oppose him and win if they didn't agree with him if he became president or something... that seems quite flaky to me... that seems more like the agenda of the character 'Amon' that Noatak was role-playing as than his own actual agenda...
I am the queen of overthinking stuff.... Oh well. Its okay if you didn't read all of this XD, just know that Amon was an awesome character, and I hope he makes a come back (with or without his brother)!
I think for all the hypocrisy of him being a bender himself, he really did believe in his message of equalizing the human race. He saw first hand through the greed and ruthlessness of his father what bending can do to people, and decided to use his own power to try and bring a definitive end to it, especially considering that new technology was making bending more obselete everyday (for its "good and useful" usages anyway).
Very good point. I sincerely thank You for sharing your opinion and replying to my comment. I was happy to see it when I checked my account this morning ^o^ I thought I was going to find another TLDR (too long didn't read) comment or something (not that i'd be angry, cause my comment was pretty long O_____o). So thank you kindly ^_^ I admit forgot about his father.... hehe whoops...
