The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

As you can see Death Note has taken its hold and I am on a complete fanart binge....but no need to fear! anyone who has been watching me for a while knows I have phases and I generally return to my old favorite anime/mangas when my interest gets re-sparked... I am thinking of finishing Durarara but Bleach and Naruto are proving unbearable at the moment...specially with the current Bleach plot OTL though I do dearly miss my darling Mr Aizen....I was thinking of doing a big antagonist crossover fanart... because we all know the bad guys are more interesting

I also have Panty and Stocking, Eureka 7, One Piece and Code Geass...though I haven't watched more than one episode of each

Since I brought it up... does anyone else have similar phases or are you generally loyal to one anime/manga at a time?

I'm pretty loyal to my top five favorites, but I will go though stages where I binge and watch half way though the entire series in a couple weeks... Then I lose interest and return to my darling favorites!

Yes, I have that phases too... If I like some manga/anime at this moment, I collect every information about in, I watch/read all specials, AMVs etc and if there are games, I play them too. And... I read every yaoi doujinshi I can find xD

If we're talking about Code Geass, it last for veeery long... I watched all episodes and movies in 3 days, next I was searching and downloading tons of doujinshi + about 4 different mangas, and even downloaded game... Well, I still like it and I'm waiting for 3th season

I think you will like it, I was really suprised that anime with mechs can draw me into it

I'd say if anything I have phases as well. But I don't know if it can even be considered that. Basically.. if I find something new, I read/watch it. ALL. Unless it hasn't ended.. then I save it for later and check every day or so for a new update and just follow it. I'm currently doing that with quite a few haha. It's sad really. When I get into one like that, I get antsy until I finish it; so I end up watching/reading as much as I can at a time

Should you give One Piece a chance, it's really good

I admit, at first I was feeling " Ugh. I don't wanna watch this " but ironically I was forced to. The beginning is definitely slow and odd, but it gets better the further you go. The characters and the style certainly grew on me. I can't wait until the next episode and chapter!

I have heard great things about Code Geass. I have yet to watch it myself though.

I have phases. But for nearly a year I've been super dedicated to One Piece. I love it so much it's hard to quit.
It's one of my more hardcore phases ;m; nnn~~
