I read Harry Potter... I have to say I use to hate it because...well...I dunno I just did but I really ended up enjoying it! Its a really cool concept I guess and I always thought Harry was a pansy angsty dork but he doesn't really come off like that ( not to my knowledge yet) Fanart anyone?
Lol, I remember when I first read Harry Potter. My sister got it for her 12th birthday or something, and I hated it because everyone else loved it and made a huge fuss over it, so I refused to read it.
But... being a bookworm that can't resist cool-looking books, I just had to pick it up. And now I've read all the books 5 times, except for the first one, which I read 6 times.
I had the same mindset when I was younger and first introduced to HP.
5th grade Me: "I dunno...I can't really relate to male characters. " One week later: "OMIGOD, THIS SHIT IS AWESOME~ "
DO FANART. DO IIIIIT. Hermione and Luna~ I love those two; the booksmart, kick-ass girl and the quirky, but honest and just so bouncy~ Neville was more of a weakling-nerd-turned-to-badass, which is why I always cheered him on, and Snape was awesome too~ I hated him in the beginning, but towards the end I really loved him.
I don't like Harry Potter (the character), but there are some excellent supporting cast members: Severus Snape being the obvious masterpiece, but I'm also a fan of Luna Lovegood, Sirius Black, Neville Longbottom, etc.
Over all, though, I don't consider myself a fan of the series. I read them as a kid, and stopped in the fifth book, because I was too angry with the way the series was going. I've seen all the movies, and they are alright, but not my cup of tea *shrugs*
Fanart, yes! I'm really glad you're enjoying Harry Potter. It was my childhood. And yes, Harry can be an angsty dork, but he's badass enough to make up for it
