I am not at all concerned about people using my drawings on their blog or somewhere where they give some some sort of credit or preferably link back, but I have found on three occasions artists offering a portrait drawing service using my drawings as examples of their own work! With one the website owner took him down within two days when I complained. From the second one, from Lithuanina, I got no response to a complaint and my picture is still being used. On the most recent occasion that I have found, the Turkish offender is using 11 of my drawings (and also four from three other dA artist)s. He has also annotated them sometimes giving information of size, materials and time taken - all incorrect! As it is on his own website I have done nothing (except to warn the other dA artists involved of the 'theft' of their pictures) as I am sure that, like the Lithuanian last year, he would not take them off his site and I do not want to get into any sort of 'war' with him!.
I hope none of my stuff has been stolen. I don't have many pictures (since I don't have a lot of time), but 3/4 that I have so far I worked pretty hard on them. They're not amazing, but I REALLY hope people don't steal them. It annoys me how people can just take something, claim it as theirs, and then everyone will believe them, maybe even get more likes than the original. Seriously, it's sad that there are people who want to be popular, so they just steal other people's work to try and get attention that they don't deserve. Is there a lot of art stealing on deviantart? Are there really that many cases of art-theft?
I had put up my artwork for YMCA over summer and it was my first gallery ever!! And then when I went to pick up my art, they said they couldn't find 3 of my pieces. You are telling me you couldn't find my 2 pieces that are a 3rd of my size!? As well as my favorite piece!?
I've had someone copy my art before. What I think is the most disturbing part about it is that everyone takes their word for it even after you come on the scene to clear up things with the truth. It's like now YOU have to prove you're the original artist and you weren't copying THEM.
Fortunately, I had all the proof I needed and even the date I had drawn it was on the picture. Even after having been caught red handed, however, this person showed no remorse and we were in conflict for a time after that.
Not a big art guy, but I report plagerism when i find it to the original artist. Its also very amusing to see how put out people can be for their hard work when they get busted. I had one web designer who had stolen kyoht and goldenwolfen's artwork and blatantly redone it for a website they got paid for tell me "I have four children how can you be so cruel." Well maybe this will help you teach your four kids that stealing art is still stealing.
Some kid traced something of mine. I very diplomatically asked her to take it down or include in her description that she had copied it and link back to my work. She responded, "Why are you being so mean? I worked so hard on it!" Haha..yes, tracing is tough work I bet. Since she wasn't being compliant in crediting me I reported it to admins who removed it. Later on I noticed she re-uploaded it, and now it has a link back to my artwork which says "inspired by this". Which still isn't right but..haha..whatever close enough I guess lol.
I've had people thinking dA was a 'post pretty pictures' website post some of my works to their gallery, but they've long since been banned. And someone posting my pictures to their myspace and then getting bitchy when I asked them to remove them (one got removed by the admins, never got a reply for the second one. ) I've since been removed from her friendslist so I can't see them anymore. :\
Yeah, shit happens. Mainly on Photobucket. People steal, trace, manipulate, edit, everything. I stalk Photobucket to see if there are some of my pictures raped by retarted kids and if I find something I report it.
People can be arseholes. I think the reason they want to steal others art is because they can't do what some can and want to take credit to show to someone that they admire and maybe make them like them. It comes from the heart people, it comes from the heart.
I don't mind people using pictures for icons or signatures, it's if they attempt to pass it off as their own that really riles me. Happened to me before =__= Thief just copied and pasted the EXACT same picture on his DA account.
I reported it and it was taken down in less than 24 hours, and he also got permanently banned. It was really a good thing and my case that it was really fast. It's harder when people edit it abit, those kinds sometimes don't get removed :/
Even though my art fails, some people had the nerve to trace some pics here on DA. Also found a bunch of my pics in another site. Man these people have a really bad taste ._. Either way all these thieves fail
I've had my IPod works redone to say something like 'IRamen' instead of IPod on them. One time, my art was traced directly. I don't care if they use the pose as a reference, but don't trace. This one has been stolen and edited a few times, hurts more because this was a collab so it hurts the other person who did the lineart. But overall, this one has been edited the most. Found a ton on photobucket edited.
Depending on where I find them, I don't mind. Like if I see someone use it as a profile picture, a signature, use it for a Youtube video, just posting it up on a site like Photobucket, I don't care since it's not like they're saying it's theirs. Once they start posting it on sites like dA and then edit them, that's when I get mad.
Yeah it happened to me... a girl on deviantArt totally traced some page of my sasunaru doujinshi, coloured and COPIED AT ALL DIALOGUES too...without credit, of course... I found it, and asked to remove...luckly the girl removed them...
yep. I did a picture of a pregnant lady relaxing and some pregnancy blog on Wordpress stole it. I don't mind I guess as they left named what it was, so that's how I found it...and the name is 'Pregnant Lady by Wayword-angel' so I guess that's grand.
If it was someone on DeviantArt who was claiming it as their own though I'd be fit to kill!! I can't abide that.
Sort of. Actually i don't mind untill someone claims it as his or hers artwork (the latter have never happened to me though ). People are usually nice to put the name of the author or links to my pages
