When I started doing digital art, I automatically noticed that my art received more views and favorites, even if I didn't put a lot of effort into it. Honestly, it kinda pissed me off...

Pairings. :iconblushplz: Put two characters together and people automatically go "OHMAHGAWTHISISSOPRETTYIMGONNAFAVETHISBECAUSETHEYBELONGTOGETHER".
I don't mind, though. ^^ I sort of do that too..

I find either stupid/funny stuff or fanart gets a lot of views. Or a combo of that. For example, I spent about 15 mins doing this stupid photomanip of a Zelda screenshot for a joke, and it became really popular. :P Amount of effort doesn't always seem to matter, but I think if something looks really eye-catching, it's going to get more views.

usually the things i make in 1 sitting are more popular O.o
but those tend to have not very much detail...then again not much of my stuff has detail xD
what about you moni?

The stuff I work hard on tends to be more popular, but then there are also stamps that take five minutes.

I've found it's more genre/subject matter than talent that determines what's popular (in my case anywhere, where the strength of my art isn't enough to stand on its own.)

I love observed that a lot of people prefer simpler pictures, I mean, it's like if a really detailed coloring technique were too complicated for their minds

I enjoy complicated drawings better that show the TRUE artist's skills, but a lot of people don't appreciate it... my most favourited drawing was a crappy cel-shading picture... -________-

i had to pick something cos there was no option but really its very diverse

depends on timing, the social popular scene, and i believe GOOD graphic and appealing design.

something that just stands out even from a tiny thumbnail.

and pictures everyone can relate to :D and usually find happiness from :D

it's not effort it's not time you spend on it.
it's popularity of what you draw.fanart or something REALLY epic and with the title that makes you wanna go check it out.let's say someone goes on deviantart just to search for something they wanna see.you just have to find out what is popular with people(which is not hard, you can compare others
with your own interests)but it's much better when you have something in your gallery that other people are looking for in general, that they know of.
in translation FANART

It doesn't depend on the effort at all, for me at least ; only on the genre. My original art usually gets 0fav, whether I put a lot of effort and time in it or not, haha.

More effort = more faves don't work on DA. At least, for me. Artworks I feel pretty lousy about gets more positive feedbacks whereas artworks that took me weeks doesn't seen to attract any interest. :icontearplz:

Generally, it's the idea or message behind the artwork that makes people like a certain work better I guess.

I guess it depends on the concept. Even without much effort, if you're trying to portray something that people would understand and like, then it would likely get a lot of favs/views

Though most of the time, it is a combination of a lot of things such as concept, colors, lines, emotion, etc. So, personally, I'd say it's the effort put in.
