If I'm just drawing with pencil it could take even up to 6 hours, because of tweaking all the time here and there , if I go digital then there can be days even on some simple drawing cuz I have really big painting problems and understanding it ... lack of knowledge ofcourse , I'm self thought.

I could finish a drawing in less than 8 hours intercalated on a day, but i rather put effort on a drawing on an avarage of 3 hours per day until i'm finished with it. It makes me more observative on what i should improve on my drawing, makes me pay more attention on any mistakes or weird proportions, makes me more motivated to draw for long hours and makes me more experienced by letting it(the drawing i'm currently working on) rest within the days i'm working on it until i'm done.

It usually takes a couple days for me

Depends on the project.
Sketchs are 10 mins to 20 mins (more time for detailed).
Outline takes 30 mins to an hour.
Painting takes 4 hours on my program after tracing the outlines.

It depends on what I'm drawing, and it depends on what medium.

Any Painting I do takes at least 1 hour right off the bat, I've never finished a painting and been satisfied with it in less than an hour no matter the size. (Even 2 in. by 2 in. dollhouse paintings leave me tweaking them), and can clock upwards of currently 9 hours. Though I will definitely spend more than 9 hours on paintings in the future.

Any digital drawing takes about an hour right off the bat as well. Mainly because I have a shaky hand and digital art is actually one of the most difficult mediums for me, due to this. It doesn't help that I used a trackpad because my tablet doesn't have a pen and my mouse broke :P The longest I've ever spent on a digital drawing so far is probably about 2 or 3 hours, though that was when I was just figuring out GIMP and such, now it's more like 1-2 hours.

Any drawing, pen or pencil, that I've done is usually done within an hour. Including every pen and paper thing I've drawn so far (Granted I don't have many good ones posted currently) I think the longest I've ever spent on a drawing was maybe an hour and a half, and it was drawing 40+ characters in a school setting a few years back. Sketches literally take me minutes, and concepts take me maybe 10 minutes. coloring is probably the longest process honestly.

Admittedly, every single thing on my DeviantArt currently took less than an hour to make, except for one of the Paintings (The textured one) because I was continually unsatisfied with it. I guess I oughtta start posting more quality stuff, nice poll!

Depends on the picture. A large picture, such as a Transformer, takes a butt load of time and effort because of the detail. For individual people/poses it usually takes me a couple of hours to finish, but I rarely work straight through. I work on my art off and on throughout the day, and I'm always editing or adding to a picture.

Under an hour but all I use is a mechanical pencil and I kind of rush it so it only comes out decent.
IchiRuki17 Featured By Owner Oct 7, 2010  Hobbyist General Artist
1-2 hours or more if i'm not in the mood....

Ofen around 10 hours. ^^;
RinaIzumo Featured By Owner Oct 5, 2010  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
Depends on the size and the material i use.. Traditional media has some.. specific to it, so to say ^^;
I'll chose the last point of the poll just because it usually takes enough time for me to finish an artwork at large
kistrix Featured By Owner Oct 4, 2010
It depends on colouring it or not. Up to 2 hours to draw it (also depending on having or not having a landscape or perspective). But if I decide to ink the lineart, and then paint it on Photosop, it may take really long. Because I don't have a tablet, and it's a mess to use the mouse to paint.
Tatsumoto Featured By Owner Oct 3, 2010
An 1hr or 2 at most. If there's problems to fix in the final product I'll just make notes of it and restart some other time.
CatNightroad Featured By Owner Oct 3, 2010  Hobbyist Traditional Artist

Between 30mins and 3-4+ hours depending on medium (traditional or digital), amount of detail, size of the piece...Digital takes me a lot longer...

You can't rush art. :D
xxelegantbeautyxx Featured By Owner Oct 1, 2010   General Artist
Usually 3 days if it's a full picture or has lots of shadowing and lighting. I really don't understand how some people finish within 5 hours. Maybe I'm just very precise with my artwork.

More than five hours. Because I'm very slow and always want to make it I always change things over again and again. Well, most of the time it doesn't even look better after those changes -.-"

I take a lot of time cause I like to try things, or make a mistake that i have to redraw half the picture or a number of other things.

IF ONLY I could finish a pic in just 5 hours... That would make me extremely happy. ;P If I work on one every day all day from start to finish it still takes me 2-3 weeks to finish one. Hours? I'd say it usually takes a total of 40+ hours for me to make ONE picture. And that's... Just insane, I know... ^^; I am probably the slowest artist on all of DA... :XD:

Dude your "sketches" should be done in 10 mins ;) when you will start to progress you will draw one piece for hours and hours, because you will think it will never be good enough ;)
atelier20 Featured By Owner Sep 30, 2010
IT REALLY depends on the picture

whether its happy accident
or long arduous design process
i've only just started designing, meaning every thing has to be PERFECT perfect composition, lines, color,etc

like make 20 drafts, developments, samples very fun :D
xianghua4kilik Featured By Owner Sep 30, 2010
does this include actually doing it on computer cos the drawing takes 4o minutes...the rest well...i get distracted
Itemmaster23 Featured By Owner Sep 30, 2010
what i can draw is really simple, doesn't take me all that long
and i can't shade of color, so all my pictures are black and white!
and some grey

moar then 5 hrs. D: like, 8-15hrs or even more. D: I just dont understand how awesome artists produce beautiful art in only a few hrs. :|

it depends on how big or detailed..i was probably wrong, i think once i started adding the photoshop coloring they take about 4-5 hours XD
RadioactiveArcade Featured By Owner Sep 30, 2010  Student General Artist
To be honest I don't have much of an average time ^^;
Although my shortest time is 36 minutes [digital artwork/coloured] and my longest time is 48 hours... Then again I don't like to be rushed, I mean Rome wasn't built in one day~

Dragonfire-Adept Featured By Owner Sep 30, 2010  Hobbyist General Artist
For me, it really depends on the pic and how much time I have to spend on it. As a full time student, I don't have a lot of time to just sit and draw as much. But that's all right, since my best pieces are the ones that take the longest.
Spaz88child Featured By Owner Sep 30, 2010
Line art may take me 1-2 maybe even 3 hours depending on detail and how many people, etc

but Coloring and shading I take 5-7 hours
Firithnovwen Featured By Owner Sep 30, 2010  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I'm on the upper 5 hours level, not all pictures but just depends what I'm working on
