Automatic is convenient, but MAN do I love my little stick-shift Saturn. It's getting old now, but I love it to death. Vrrrrrrrrrrrrrr-Vrrrrrrrrrrrr-VRRRRRRRRRRRRR down the on-ramp.... ...... (it's late at night. my only excuse for such a peculiar comment)
My first attempt at learning to drive were in automatics but my b/f drives a manual so i had to learn to drive that(and be pregnant at that). My family/friends and I never thought i'd learn to drive muchless be shifting gears. It's FUN!!! Sometimes i feel the NEED for SPEED, but I'm scared of bein pulled over or loosing control( i drive 99% of the time with my daughter). Beside's, i dont think i'm 100% perfect at it.
I tried driving an automatic after learning manual....yeaah that sucked! I kept pushing the "clutch" pedal but was really pushing the break. There were alot of angry drivers that day.
I've been reading that other countries have 2 diff drivers license? That's smart. I think there are ppl in the States that shouldnt be driving manual.
the first time i drove a standard i backed out of my driveway did a full turn and almost took out the front fence. this was mostly due to the fact that my mom was screaming grabing the wheel, (before i started to back up) and yelling at me "not to touch the brakes" it's a good thing i took my foot off the gas and pulled the emergency brack instead. after she said "i may have over reacted" that is why i drive standard and never with my mom in the car.
its money well spent as long as i don't have to drive with my mom, plus i can take my N test in my instructors little car. so it works out pretty well. and it dosn't cost too much cause my parents are going to pay half. but the only reason they're paying is cause they fear death and don't wanna be in the car with me driving. i'm not that bad a driver now, the lessons are paying off.
I drive an automatic but it sucks as it's actually my 1st car and i just bought it last month and i always said i wanted my 1st car to have been a manual drive as i like the idea of shifting ......ah well for an automatic this new baby sure is sexy looking, lol!!
Manual all the way. I learned in an automatic, then when I had no choice to learn manual (because I wrecked my car and all I had was a manual left), I fell in love with it. It's my preference, and if I never drive another automatic, I'd be cool with that.
I drive both, but I learned to drive a manual first. Only issue I had with automatic was that the break pedal was big enough for two, and I instinctively wanted to use the third pedal when I break. >_>; Took me about two drives, then I had lost the behaviour.
I drive automatic because I was forced to learn to drive (much to my mom's pleasure, who sends me to do all the things she doesn't want to do and has be as her personal chaffer), otherwise I would be happy being driven around. But I want to learn manual
I know right? plus, I like standards better cause they tend to handle better and last longer (that is if you dont tear up the clutch while learning to drive it D) I've got a BMW and it has lasted pretty good for being so old
I do the same thing with autos, but I don't have to go around the block a few times - I just have to take a minute. Regardless, it never fails that my left foot goes to press the clutch when I try to start the car, no matter how much I've driven it. lol.
