I like them short if it has a good ending, but if it ends on a weird note i'm all O_o wtf just happened. Same goes for long ones, but if they just get too long and the plot just turns weird and ridiculous and I keep finding loopholes, i'm all -_-' okay, this need to end now.
I don't know x3 When I watch an anime or read a manga, is not because of how long it is, but what it is about xD But I do understand there are some people who have preferences. My cousin, for example, only likes long animes.
Most of the anime I really like end up being too short ;_; (FLCL, Angel Beats, etc). But I like some longer ones out there (YYH). A good Anime that's long is hard to find. Most of the time, it just starts to repeat itself. It gets old and causes me to lose interest .
It depends on the story. If the plots is very interesting and can develop to something awesome, than it's okay to be long, but if it gets too tiring or too repetitive, it gets tiring to the reader as well. So the best choice is moderate, because, in my opinion, you don't need to spend the rest of your life telling a story for it to be good, like it's happening to Naruto. It could have ended already. Sorry fan-people.
I like it when manga's long and when it's good. Lol.
I usually don't watch anime, because of filler episodes, and for me it's so much easier and faster to read the manga. Simply because it's easier to get a hold of and I can read so much more than 20-something minutes of anime gets through.
depends on how new the anime/manga is. how intense it is. how much time i have, ect. I don't usually like the anticipation of new voumes or shows, so i enjoy watching older shows and reading older/finished manga. Much faster and easier. With the few exceptions, code geass (when it was new) death note (when it was new as well,) Ouran High School Host Club, Fruits basket, and oh, Junjou Romantica. Lol if anyone cared >.>

I'll read some short mangas every once in awhile, but I prefer it to be longer if the idea is REALLY good. For example, Arago has a great plot and good characters and I really want it to go on for as long as, say, Detective Conan/Case Closed, but it has about two chapters to go until it's finished. (I recommend you check Arago out, by the way. [link])
I personally think shorter is better. When anime/manga is super long, I can't help but feel like there is no plot.
Besides, if something's shorter it's more likely that it was all planned out from the beginning. I love rewatching episode 1 and seeing seeing it foreshadow a bunch of stuff that doesn't happen until near the end. Stuff like Baccano!, Steins;Gate, etc etc.
I don't really care how long it is so long as the storyline is good, more so if its a long series like Naruto or Inuyasha. But shorter ones like specific Digimon seasons, or Outlaw Star, if not R.O.D. series
moderate with a good plot line. if it's too long i get bored of waiting for updates and stop reading until something reminds of how much i used to love that anime/manga. if it's too short i get irritated that there was nothing more to the story plot that would've been a nice add on to it.

i'm more of a short to moderate person. Naruto is really the only thing that's long that i've been able to keep up with (most of the time). Pokemon got old for me after the second generation. Same with Yu-Gi-Oh.
i prefer long because one piece is long. however even though bleach is long i find a very repetative story plot gotie 13 mess somethign up -> someone gets kidnapped -> ichigo gains superpowers -> ichigo and company illegally get involve -> huge ass fight -> repeat
I don't mind them to long, just if they have a good story. I dont lkike it when they keep adding new villians just to keep their story alive. Then it just gets over the top and you start to lose interest in it.
