All art is fanart. Some is fanart of things, people and places drawn from our own experiences, but nothing is truly original. Everything we create draws from our own experience.

The deviantART community has zero interest in original art unless it's drawn extremely well.

I prefer original, but if there's a thumbnail of a fanart that seems interesting or it's by an artist that I like, then I'll probably click it. But... with fanart, you get PAIRINGS! So that's the really good upside ^^

I like fanarts of stuff i'm fan of. But still original characters/artwork doesn't get as much attention as fanart. I think it should.

I prefer original artwork over fan art. I don't mind looking at fan art as long as it's what the character would do and such. I do agree with what LilMs-Mutt says, though. c:

Depends, really. I think it's the quality of the artwork that I'm interested in, not the type of art it is. Original, fanart, I love viewing them all! :D

It depends how good the fanart is, if its really good then i dont mind, but when its bad it destroys my original image of the actual characters-.-

Chose Other:
It depends entirely on how it's drawn.
If I don't like the style then it doesn't matter if it's original or fanart.

I wouldn't say I like them equally, but more that I like art that catches my fancy, whatever it may be. Heck, I've faved fanart from anime/manga/tv shows/etc. that I've never seen/read before.

It's not really a matter of liking original art vs fanart, it's more like I enjoy looking at anything that's drawn well, regardless of what it's a drawing of. For example, I will often favorite fanart of fandoms I haven't even heard of before, simply because the beauty of the drawing overshadows all.

I adore both. The thing is, fanart is easier to search for because you know what key words to use. Original works are more of a mystery and more difficult to search for something specific.

Most of the fan art I see is for programs I have never seen, so I then count it as an 'original' piece. To be honest if the art is good then I don't really mind.

I like both equally, but on the internet, I only search for fanart... fortunately there are things like the Deviantart frontpage, so my eye gets catched by some of the art there, often resulting in hours of looking through one artists pictures, than his favourite pictures and the pictures of the artists of those favourite pictures... and so on.

I actually like them both pretty equally. When I'm searching for art online, I usually type in fandom-related keywords, because then I know the kind of thing I'm getting.. with original art you never know. :P And then from there, if the artist appeals to me and they have original works, I'll likely be interested in those as well.. and then if they have any favourite artists who happen to do original work, I'll probably check them out too, etc. So, I don't usually start off searching for original art (online, anyway), but I find it and like it all the same. I think it's the coolest when there's a great artist who does mostly original artwork, but then every now and then they grace a certain fandom with a really beautiful piece of fanart. And then you feel honoured that they're a fan of the same thing you are, hahah.

I like both, unfortunately I persume I should look more on original as I'm too much of a fan brat ._.U

When it comes to drawing, fan art is fun and good training before you finally start on Original stuff.

I love your original art because it's usually fantastic and conceptual. I don't usually look at most your fanart though, because most of it is for things I'm not interested in. The art is great (of course!), but the content isn't for me. Like Death Note. I never got into that

Because it's not the subject of the drawing that catches my eyes, it's more the quality of the drawing, how it was made that's important to me.

I used to only look at fanart. However, ever since I've kind of "fallen out of anime/manga" I don't go looking for fanart, and usually only look for original works however I love them equally. I just don't go searching for new anime/manga or fanart anymore. I let them come to me, in a way.

I like fanart in the sense that it helps you find your style, but I don't like it when people just do fanart of one or two things, and the don't try to advance. I'm trying to use fanart as a way to grow so I'm able to do more original work.

While I do enjoy looking at fanart, I also greatly enjoy seeing someone's original work, as it displays their creativity. Either way, it doesn't matter because I think the art style is really the most important thing, like if their concept is given a unique flair.

Original art > Fan art.
I'd even support original art is that fanwork-inspired (for example, a Sailor Moon OC) over straight-up fanart.

Originality is good, but fanarts are good too. I did a LOT of fan art when I was younger, like SSB and Eva, Cowboy Bebop and DBZ; part of the reason I think I do pretty well now. I think Fan art is part of the originality path, try and imitate what you like, and it sets you on this journey.

^^ I tend to prefer fanart because I already know the characters, and I love how you use fanart to expand on or explore or make fun of their personalities, but some of the best art is original <3 I like how you make us love your original characters too, though :D
