I never knew there was an age limit for DA!! After I saw this; however, I don't really mind on what people vote for! The only thing that DOES annoy me is that there is even an age limit for DeviantART, PERIOD! It shouldn't matter on what age the artist is! There is no such thing as being to young for art!! I mean; I joined DeviantART at the age of 13 about 4 months ago; and NOW look at me!!

All of that gained within 4 months!! People like my art because it is just that; ART! They don't care about my age; often people don't even NOTICE how old the artist is until after they've seen the art! So; I personally believe that DeviantART should just make it that ANYONE at ANY AGE can join DA!
I think people underestimate younger Artists, Not all of them steal art. Some just make mistakes but as soon that you tell them it's wrong they don't do it again. Some just like to piss off people and do it for fun. Some are just interested in art and don't want to mess with anybody, but they still get judged. There are a lot of personalities, people, characters, you don't know them all.
Thirteen is a tad low for me, just because you can encounter some pretty twisted/dark/smutty stuff on here by accident. I wouldn't want my thirteen-year-old brother on here, that's for sure. I'd put it at fifteen. By that age the majority of people have either established their limits or are mature enough to handle with caution.
I believe that if you enter your age on the dA signup form as under 13, instead of completely not allowing you to register they should give you a 50-day maturity test where you will be watched closely by admins (they will not inform you of this, so you won't even know it's a test and you won't fake your maturity). To pass, you must not steal art, you can't lie and you can't make immature comments. Stealing art, lying and making immature comments will cause you to fail the test.
When I was 11, I showed above-average skill in art for my generation. I tried to make a Deviantart account, but COPPA wouldn't let me. I know some of you might say "But underage people are more likely to steal art!". But, really... some young artists have great potential. It is sad that they cannot express themselves because of a simple law. Copy and paste this if you think the minimum age should be lowered!
I've been reading these comments, and although I do realize some young people take art and say it's theres, not all of them do. You don't need to be bashing the younger generation just because of some of the idiotic young 'artists' you see. Some of the younger artists show great potential. I voted lower.
I mean, I'm not saying that the younger people aren't sometimes the cause of art theft or simply just annoying the crap out of the rest of us, but they shouldn't be rejected just for that. I joined only a year ago, and I was 14. The changes that are obvious in my art and my general attitude is amazing to me. I don't know if it's because I'm simply at that age, or recent things have forced me to grow up quickly, but whatever it is, it's astonishing. Being on here has helped that in ways you couldn't imagine. I look back to my old "art" and can honestly tell you that I'm not proud of it. It's poorly done, generic, and horribly shallow-minded. And now I think I've become more open to things, because people gave me a chance. I wasn't instantly rejected or laughed at, but given the oppurtunity to grow as a person and artist. I still have a long way to go, but I will say that I am proud of how much I've changed because of dA.
