I wish they did this before I made this account ;w; I think its cool since I remember people art styles and such and If I forget who someone is I can just click there profile ad bam cool lookin' art! I if I had a subscription I'd change the name for my other account.
I want to change my name so badly (I was suuuuuuch a weeaboo when I made this account...DX), but I need a dumb premium membership...
I don't think it matters too much with the whole "people won't recognize you", because it tells your watchers that you changed your name. I've gotten two notifications about that already and I remember them.
I already changed accounts, but I have many reasons for doing so. Not just the username but it's to do with certain works and a new direction I wanted to take for my art.
I think it's good to change usernames only if you feel like there's a true need for you to market yourself under a different name while maintaining your old works. If you find that it's not really essential for you, then I think there's no reason why you should unless you really want to.
Since I’ve been saying for a while since who fad with the user names I might as well say it again out of personal opinion and nothing more.
I think users are better off not bothering with this so called feature, there are plenty of sites that can allow one to change their user name. I think youtube is another. It’s not really a special feature changing ones user name is nothing new to many of us today. I rather keep one of the same usernames because it would be too bothersome and confusing if had to made user name alias and what not. Stick what works for you that’s what I suggest.
But if people wanna change them let them, who am I to stop you or anyone else.
I think it's a good idea. Even if an artist you've watched changes their username, they will still be on your deviant watch list, so you can search for them or just write down their new name when you get the notification. I really don't like my username, I just used it to test out DeviantArt before I began really using it. I'm there are others who have done the same thing. I'd love to change it if I could. Although, it'd be better in my opinion if there was just a straight fee for changing the username without requiring a premium membership. Those things are really hard to get and many people don't have the money to do so.
If it's a name that's really bothering the owner, then sure, they can change... but... I swear, I've got 50 notifications of people changing their names and most of them are even worse than the ones they picked out first.
I know a lot of people will disagree, but I HATE it. Even though we get notifications, I'll never remember who is who! I know people by their usernames like I would know a person in real life, so if someone changes their name after I've known them for like a year I'll be incredibly confused. It's just plain annoying. I mean, when you join a website you have to think of a username you'll be happy with and never want to change because it's PERMANENT FOR GOSH SAKES.
Sorry for the rant, I just came across like 7 messages about username changes and it's freaking frustrating. So I just had to blow off steam.
I think it's sorta not cool =/ I recognize only my super favorite artists and people I watch for a while already. Well, I do understand people got bored and even annoyed by their old DA names, but... i'm really confused now who is who -_- dunno, maybe i'll get used to it someday.
I don't understand why everyone keeps saying that no one will recognize you. It's not like you lose your followers in anyway and plus, they get a message telling them that you changed your name to something else. It's not very hard to look at those messages to find out who has changed their name and to what. And if you haven't memorized the names yet, you can go to that person's page and remind yourself WITH THEIR ART. All artists have their own unique style and you follow them because you like said styles. You'll know who they are no matter what.
I really like that they gave this new feature. It's a chance for artists to redeem themselves from some of the horrible names we chose when we first started out. Over time, those usernames have become an embarrassment to tell people and spread the word about yourself. Now that we can change our usernames, it gives us sort of a new confidence and begin to make a better name for ourselves.
I like mine... mind you it is my fifteenth. Mainly cause I kept making really REALLY bad art and getting better and hating what I'd done previously. Now I just admit that I was kinda bad and that I'm working on getting better.
