i can't tell you HOW MANY americans i've come across who want to be idiot grammar nazis and stubbornly insist that i need to learn some english because i spell it "colour." pisses me the fuck off that they act so up there and think that they know everything there is to know about english when the original language came from europe. when will some of them realise (yes, i use "realise" and other "z" words with an "s") that america isn't at the center of everything?
i grew up with the british spellings and even though i've been going to school in the US for awhile, i've never been able to get used to the american spellings. the words just looks odd and seems really out of place to me.
i was genuinely surprised though, to find that none of my american professors/TAs have ever corrected my british spellings or made an issue of it, or have even corrected my grammar. ever. so i find it twice as funny and three times as annoying that regular kids will try to "correct" my english.
